The State Health Department has received a report of another preliminary human case of West Nile Virus and it involves a 39-year-old St. Louis area man. That brings to five the number of Missourians in the St. Louis area with preliminary positive tests. Previously, two men and two women were identified as having preliminary positive tests. Samples from the five have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Results should be back next week. In addition to these five people, West Nile was confirmed in a Massachusetts woman who likely contracted the Virus during a visit to the St. Louis area late last month. She is considered aMassachusetts case.
