The Royals let a golden opportunity slip through their fingers last night as they lost to the Yankees 10-5. Trailing 6-4 in the sixth inning, Kansas City loaded the bases with no outs. But Steve Karsay got the Royals to hit three straight grounders to end the inning. The Royals got just one run, making it 6-5. In the seventh, the Yankees scored four runs to take a 10-5 lead. Mike Sweeney was back in the lineup for the first time in a month. Sweeney was 2-5 in his return. Starter Jeff Suppan got the loss, allowing six runs in 5 2/3’s innings. Suppan is 8-12. Roger Clemens got the win for New York. He’s 7-0 in his last eight starts against the Royals. The Yankees have won 11 of the last 12 meetings with Kansas City.
