The Missouri Health Department has received preliminary reports of four Missourians testing positive for the West Nile Virus. All four cases, which involve two men and two women, are in the St. Louis area. Tests have been conducted and samples have been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Results should be available toward the middle to end of next week. If confirmed, these would be Missouri’s first human cases of West Nile Virus. The case of a Massachusetts woman who apparently contracted West Nile while visiting the St. Louis area last month is considered a Massachusetts case.
