State Representative May Scheve of St. Louis has taken over as State Democratic Party chairman this year and says she understands how important a role that is. Scheve says the top priority of the party is getting Jean Carnahanelected in her own right to the US Senate, but the party also wants to maintain control of the Missouri House and at least deadlock in the Missouri Senate, which Republicans took control of last year. Scheve is one of the 85 state lawmakers being forced out by term limits, which she says isn’t fair. She says Democrats will do well if they remember the basics of politics: recruit good candidates who will have a grass roots organization that will go door-to-door.
