Proposition B went down to overwhelming defeat – statewide – and, on a county-by-county basis – in every county except one — Lewis County in northeast Missouri. That was where a campaign spearheaded by SMART – Students of Missouri Assisting Rural & Urban Transportation – pushed for the proposal following the traffic deaths of four students. SMART’s Jeff McReynolds says student travels throughout the state made one thing clear. But, he says the package being offered just wasn’t right for many Missourians. To them, he says, it lacked accountability. SMART won’t give up the effort to improve the state’s roads. After having travelled to all corners of the state SMART will head to Jefferson City during the next legislative session taking the road message to lawmakers.
