Republicans have picked a man who served prison time in Minnesota for fraud and larceny as their candidate for State Auditor. He’s Al Hanson of Concordia who has upset the party’s hand-picked candidate with 65 percent of the votes in the Republican primary. Loser Jay Kanzler of St. Louis had spent almost $70,000; Hanson had spentabout $500. Hanson got 61 percent of the vote in St.Louis, Kanzler’s home town. Incumbent Claire McCaskill, who easily won re-nomination, says the results on the Republican side prove nobody’s paying attention to theAuditor’s race.
