The state has kicked off its Tax Amnesty Program – an opportunity for individual and business taxpayers who owe the state back taxes to pay the money without interest and penalties. Stan Farmer, the Director of the Division of Taxation, says there is a deadline. The taxes must be paid in full by October 31st. Late last month, the state sent Tax Amnesty Eligibility Notices to 326,000 delinquent tax accounts, informing taxpayers of this program. The state is owed about a billion dollars. It expects to collect only a fraction of that – $20-Million.
