The Cardinals comeback fell short in an 8-5 loss to the Marlins Wednesday. Rookie pitcher Travis Smith lasted just an inning and a third as Florida jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first two innings. They scored four in the first and three in the second. Smith has a record of 4-2, but even in some of his wins he’s been disappointed in himself. He thinks he needs to put in more innings each start. The Cards put three runs on the board in the second and two more in the fifth. Jim Edmonds homered in the game, it was his 22nd of the season. Scott Rolen was 2-4 with an RBI and a run in his second game as a Redbird.
