Vanguard Airlines, the discount airline based in Kansas City, has suspended all flights indefinitely and is expected to announce its bankruptcy later today. Vanguard has staggered financially for most of its existence. A memo sent to employees says the shutdown is likely permanent, although the company will try to reorganize and fly again. Employees have been told most of them have lost their jobs as of 1 o’clock this morning. Vanguard made 35 flights a day out of Kansas City International Airport, and served 17 cities.
