St. Louis fell into a 6-0 hole before rallying for two runs in the eight inning when Jim Edmonds and Fernando Vina drove in runs with ground outs. In the ninth, Mike Matheny hit a two-run single to make it 6-4, but St. Louis got no closer. With the loss, the Cardinal’s lead dropped to three-and-a half games over the Reds in the N.L. Central.
