A dispute over sick leave has triggered a lawsuit filed by teachers against the Francis Howell School District. The St. Louis area school district announced in May that the teacher sick leave budget had been overspent by more than $300,000. The 665 teachers who missed more than six days of school would have to pay back about $50 for each day over that limit. The teachers’ union haschallenged the decision, stating it is unfair and has undermined morale.
