Earlier this week an article in the Kansas City Star reported that the Royals were looking to cut their payroll. Starting pitchers Paul Byrd and Jeff Suppan were listed as possible trade candidates as the deadline nears. It’s July 31st. Byrd and Suppan have won 21 of the team’s 40 games this season. Yesterday, after winning his 13th game of the season, Byrd indicated that he wants to stay. He says he’s talked with the Royals about lowering his salary to help the situation. He seems to think the Royals are more interested in making a trade. Byrd also believes the pitchers the team has in the minor leagues and on the big league club could mean a bright future for Kansas City. The question is, will he be there to see it?
