It’s been slow in the Cardinals quest for a new starting pitcher. Early on, the Cards had their eyes on Scott Erickson, Al Lieter, and Orlando Hernandez. All three have been taken off the trade market. Cardianl GM Walt Jocketty has says a lack of quality pitchers and the amount that teams are asking for those pitchers have stalled their ability to close a deal. He still hopes a trade can be made, but says he won’t make one just for the sake of making a trade. Andy Benes has been called up to help fill the void the Cards are experiencing in the starting rotation. Benes hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since April.
