Bud Smith notched his first win since last season with a seven inning performance on Sunday. He allowed three hits and no runs as the Cardinals beat the Padres by a count of 4-1. Smith even drove in a run to improve to 1-5 on the season. J.D. Drew hit his 12th home run, a solo blast in the eighth. In the ninth, Jason Isringhausen put San Diego down in order to grab his 21st save of the year. The Cards took two of three from the Padres over the weekend. They now get ready for a two-game set with the Dodgers, which starts tonight in L.A….The Cardinals say pitcher Rick Ankiel won’t be back this year. A second doctors opinion confirmed that the 22-year old lefty has a strained flexor tendon near his elbow. Ankiel hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2000 playoffs.
