The state’s business leaders are coming out in support of Proposition B – the transportation measure on the August 6th ballot. The package would raise the sales tax by a half-cent and the gasoline tax by 4-cents-a-gallon. Thestate’s business community has been lukewarm to the proposal in the past. But, Missouri Chamber of Commerce President Dan Mehan now says it’s time to embrace it, for the good of the state’s economy. Mehan says that while the measure is far from perfect, it would be a mistake to walk away from what’s on the table. Mehan says the current proposal, which aims to raise a half-billion dollars, is a good start and something on which to build.
