A judge says the Kansas City School Board illegally fired superintendent Benjamin Demps last year because it violated the state’s open meetings law in several ways when it fired him. Judge Preston Dean says he could void the firing, but it would be useless because Demps and two of his aides resigned after another judge had reinstated them. He has ordered two school board members to undergo training about Missoiuri’s laws on open meetings and open records. And he has told three ex-School Board members they have go have the training before they can servein any other public position.
