A new system to track the whereabouts of foreign students studying in the United States is slated to be implemented by the end of next January, and the University of Missouri is slated to be one of the first schools inthe nation to use it. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, or SEVIS, allows the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the State Department to have information on foreign students. David Currey with MU’s International Center says this is the same information that is already being held on these students, just a bettersystem of accessing it. Currey is concerned there will be problems because the system is untested. But he says most students he knows are glad to comply with the requirements.
