A new plan has been unveiled for the long-closed Keil Opera House in downtown St. Louis. A $75-Million-plus proposal from one of the owners of St. Louis’s Fox Theatre would see the Opera House become a public school for the arts with a smaller auditorium for some public performances.Supporters say the school would hold up to 1,500 middle and high school students. Financing would be achieved through a combination of bonds, tax credits, private money, and maybe some of the St. Louis Public Schools’ $100-Million dollar desegregation settlement.
