Death Row Inmate Marks 20th Anniversary Awaiting Execution

July 2, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

For twenty years, inmate Elroy Preston has lived at the Potosi prison under a death sentence with an execution date still uncertain. Preston was convicted of one of the most bizarre murders in Missouri history. He stripped before fatally stabbing Pee Wee Richardson so as not to get blood on his clothes. After killing Richardson and a femalecompanion, he dipped fried chicken in their blood and ate it. Though Preston was found mentally competent to stand trial he since has been found incompetent to be executed. Department of Corrections Spokesman Tim Kniest says there has been no change in Preston’s status with the Department. He remains under the death sentence and has become the inmate to live the longest under the death sentence in Missouri.
