Governor Bob Holden has signed into law so-called homeland security legislation, a bill aimed at enhancing the safety of Missourians by improving preparedness for acts of terrorism. The bill prohibits and penalizes criminal hoaxes, prohibits agroterrorism, directs the State Emergency Management Agency to activate volunteers during a broader range of disasters, permits the Missouri State Water Patrol to close dangerous waterways, outlaws hazardous materials near or in tunnels, and strengthens laws against assisting terrorists.
