Ibanez Just Shy Of Cycle As Royals Win

June 26, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Raul Ibanez took care of the hard part, but wasn’t given the opportunity to get the easy part. The Royals left fielder hit a double, triple, and a homer, but was intentionally walked in the 7th inning, ending his bid to hit for the cycle. His four RBI’s led the Royals to an 8-6 win over the Tigers. Royals starter Jeff Suppan got into a jam early, allowing four runs in the first. But the Royals battled back to give Suppan his 6th win. Roberto Hernandez notched his 11th save of the season. It was a special night for Tony Pena. It was the first time in Major League history that two Dominican managers went at it. Pena is a native of Monte Cristi, Luis Pujols, the Tigers skipper, hails from Santiago.
