Amtrak Service Threatened By Shutdown

June 24, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Amtrak lines in Missouri and the entire nation could close down on July 1st, if the government rail line does not receive a $200-Million loan guarantee. Missouri Transportation Department Spokesman Jeff Briggs says Amtrakcarries about 200,000 passengers a year in Missouri. And, he says there’s a good variety of people who make use of the service. Briggs says there are no plans yet to come up with alternatives should Amtrak service stop. The Kansas City-St. Louis run is Amtrak’s only Missouri route.
