Steve Grooms of Raytown nailed the top seed as match play began at the 95th Missouri Amateur Golf Championship in Springfield. Unfortunately, for him, it didn’t mean much as he lost in round one yesterday to Gerald Siemons of Jefferson City. Mark McBride, from Lebanon who’s won the event the past two years, advanced to the second round with a win over David Johnson of St. Louis. 14-year old Connor McHenry was knocked out yesterday. He was the youngest of the 64-player field.
