About 10,000 people paid their respects to sportscaster Jack Buck during a special memorial service held in Busch Stadium prior to the St. Louis Cardinals game against the Anaheim Angels. Speakers remembered not only a legendary broadcaster, but a kind gentleman who had time for anyone. They also remembered his humour. Buck’s son, Cardinal broadcaster Joe Buck, told the crowd his father once imagined how people would react upon learning of his death. Joe Buck said his father envisioned two St. Louis Cardinal fans walking in downtown St. Louis when one turns to the other to inform him that Jack Buck has died in the booth. The other replies, “Really? Did we win or lose?” Former Cardinal standout Lou Brock told the crowd he planned to see his friend again someday and when he arrived in Heaven he expected Buck to greet him with his signature call “Now that’s a winner!”
