Transportation Chief Promises Road Plans Will Become Reality This Time

June 17, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Missourians might be experiencing deja vu on the latest transportation plan. All but two of the major projects the transportation department plans to do with the new funding were in the 1992 plan. The Legislature voted asix-cent-a-gallon gas tax increase to pay for thoseprojects. This time, voters go to the polls in August to decide on the funding, a four-cent-a-gallon gas tax increase and a half-cent sales tax increase. Transportation department director Henry Hungerbeeler says different people and better information are available this time around. Hungerbeeler says the department has been running much more efficiently this time around, and voters should have more confidence in MODOT.
