Cards Finish Sweep Of Royals

June 17, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Woody Williams pitched a complete-game five-hitter as the Cardinals topped the Royals 5-1 in St. Louis. Williams also drove in a run and scored a run. J.D. Drew hit his 10th homer of the year and Jim Edmonds had an RBI in his return from the DL. Williams improved to 4-2 on the season. The Royals only run came in the third inning when Neifi Perez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Royals have dropped 12 of their last 17, and have fallen to a season-low 16 games under .500. The Redbirds are now a season-high nine games over the break-even mark and have tied the Reds for first place in the N.L. Central. St. Louis also passed Kansas City for the lead in their all-time interleague series, winning 11. The Royals have won 10.
