Nursing homes are suing Governor Holden to restore the $20-Million cut from this fiscal year’s budget. The money was a one-time payment to nursing homes to make improvements. It was part of the $230-Million in cuts that has to be made by the end of this month. Holden says he really had no other choice because of what hne calls a small group of Republicans in the Legislature. But the leader of that small group of Republicans, RepresentativeCatherine Hanaway of Warson Woods, says the Governor has about $90-Million dollars he could use this fiscal year to save not only the nursing home cut, but the cut to colleges and unversities. Hanaway says the power to withhold these funds is totally in the Governor’s hands, and she would encourage him to choose wisely what still gets cut and what money is held onto.
