Grudge Might Have Been Motive In Abbey Shootings

June 13, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

A long smoldering grudge against the Catholic church stemming from how he was treated when the church granted he and his wife an annulment might have triggered the bloody ramage at Conception Abbey Monday. Sergeant Sheldon Lyon with the State Highway Patrol says authorities found little when they searched the car and apartment of Lloyd Jeffress.Family members told them about his anger after the divorce. The Catholic Church granted Jeffress and his wife an annulment in 1979, years after the couple were granted a divorce by civil authorities. Jeffress shot two monks to death and wounded two others at Conception Abbey Monday morning before he shot and killed himself.
