State Tourism officials have had to change how Missouri would be promoted this year. Marketing to people in neighboring states to drive to Missouri vacation spots, as well as trying to get more Missourians to stay in the state for their vacation, are parts of the new campaign. Lieutenant Governor Joe Maxwell, who is responsible for Missouri torism, wants people to remember tourism is a$12.5-Billion industry in the state. Maxwell says tourism promotion was able to dodge a bullet when the Legislature restored most of the $5-Million cut to the promotionbudget – a cut that would have represented more than one-fourth of the total tourism promotion budget.
