High Water Delays Construction On Cape Girardeau Bridge

May 21, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Construction work on the new bridge linking Missouri to Illinois at Cape Girardeau has been shut down for ten days, and will not resume for at least one more week. Contractors say high water on the Mississippi River has forced the layoff of about 100 workers. The completion date has been pushed back to at least mid-September of 2003 because of this year’s floods and other high water episodes since construction started. The bridge is to be named for Bill Emerson, who represented the area in Congress.
