Stadium Bill Revived In House

May 17, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Supporters say it’s too late to do any good. House Speaker Jim Kreider says the $644-Million stadium bill will get its time for debate now that a special House committee has reconvened and voted the bill out. The committee meeting was adjourned yesterday without resolution and it appeared as though the stadium bill had died. It still breathes, but Kreider says building a new ballpark for the Cardinals in downtown St. Louis takes a backseat to budget bills. Kreider says he would have scheduled the bill for floor debate earlier this week if House-Senate negotiators had agreed on a bill to raise enough revenue to cover the $167-Million shortfall in next year’s budget and bridge the gap in this year’s budget.
