A patent given the University of Missouri is raising some eyebrows among those wary of human cloning. The patent is for a process of turning unfertilized female eggs into embryos, which could lead to the production of cloned animals. The process mentions the use of human eggs, too. The school got the patent more than a year ago. But it’s only recently been noticed by anti-cloning groups. The university has told the New York Times some people are getting worked up because of misleading information – that the patent is intended to spark research in animal-to-humanorgan transplants. The university has a contract with a company in Massachusetts to create pigs that can be used as human organ donors.
