Governor Assesses Legislative Session

May 17, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Governor Bob Holden’s assessment of the just completed legislative session is that it resulted in some big accomplishments in a very, very difficult year. First and foremost among the Governor’s list of positives: legislationthat benefits public education. That includes funding and the Education Accountability Bill. He’s also pleased with passage of a transportation bill, children’s health insurance measures, and the balanced budget. But he’s disappointed with denial of his proposal to dip into the Rainy Day Fund. He puts the blame squarely on House Republicans he claims stood in the way. In response to Rainy Day rejection, the Governor announced $230-Million in withholdings.
