Tony Pena Named Royals Manager

May 16, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Tony Pena was a tireless worker as a baseball player. That reputation continued as he worked his way up through the minor leagues as a manager. That hard work culminated in a 3 o’clock press conference in Kansas City on Wednesday, as Pena was introduced as the Royals new manager. It’s Pena’s first shot as a big league skipper. He came to KC after spending time as bench coach for the Astros and managing in their minor league system. Pena was a major league catcher for 18 seasons and a five-time All-Star.
