Stadium Bill Thrown Into Chaos At Capitol

May 16, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Supporters of the stadium bill are in shock after the Chairwoman of a powerful House committee has taken possession of their bill without giving any indication of whether she will allow it to come to the floor for debate.House Fiscal Review Committee Chairwoman Kate Hollingsworth of Imperial attempted to block a vote on the measure by adjourning the committee and walking out. Committee members stayed behind and voted the bill out, a necessary step to clear House floor debate. Member Chris Liese of Maryland Heights notes that while members voted it out, they can’t make Hollingsworth turn the bill in to the Speaker. So, Hollingsworth controls the fate of the stadium bill in the waning hours of this legislative session.
