St. Louis won their fourth straight last night, topping the Cubs 4-1. Woody Williams made his first start since coming off the disabled list. He went six innings allowing one run and three hits, but didn’t get the decision. That went to Gene Stechshculte who got the victory in one inning of relief. He’s now 5-1, all in relief. Miguel Cairo’s RBI triple broke a 1-1 tie in the 7th. Tino Martinez, Fernando Vina and Jim Edmonds all had ribbies on the night. Edmonds his his 9th homer. The Birds swept the Cubs and have won four in a row. They’re off today.
