Wait Is Over, Henderson New Coach at SMS

May 15, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

At an afternon press conference, Katie A. Henderson was introduced as the new basketball coach of the SMS Lady Bears after a 22-day search. She agreed to a four-year deal worth $115,260 per season. Henderson has been an assistant at Michigan St. for the last two seasons. Before that she was an assistant at Iowa St. for six years. In that time the Cyclones were 94-34, making the Sweet 16 in 2000 and the Elite 8 in ’99. She’ll have some awfully big shoes to fill, taking over for Cheryl Burnette who led the Lady Bears to two Final Fours in 15 seasons. Henderson is 34.
