Catholic Church Leader Calls For Changes To Laws Dealing With Child Sex Abuse

May 10, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The leader of the St. Louis Catholic Archdiocese says the state statute of limitations on prosecution of child sex abuse cases needs review. Bishop Justin Rigali. Rigali has met with representatives of the “Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.” The group asked him to support new laws requiring priests to tell civil authorities when abuse happens, and open personnelrecords to prosecutors when requested. The group also has asked him to roll back gag orders on information about settlements with people complaining they had been abused years ago.
