The Cardinals got a couple of longballs to keep them in the game, but it was the deep game that also killed them, losing to the Cubs 6-5 last night. Edgar Renteria and Jim Edmonds hit two-run homers in the fourth and fifth innings to give them a 5-4 lead. But Bill Mueller took Cardinal starter Travis Smith deep in the bottom of the fifth to tie it at five apiece. In the ninth Alex Gonzalez broke the tie with a solo shot off reliever Mike Timlin, ending the game. Timlin got the loss dropping to 0-2.
