Thursday is showdown day in the State Senate on the stadium bill. It probably will be the last big fight on a Senate bill this session. The Senate plans a night session, if necessary. Stadium construction and renovation in Kansas City and St.Louis, convention center developments in Springfield and Branson are at stake. Senator Sarah Steelman leads the opponents, who have a lot of thingsleft to talk about. She does not know if she and her colleagues will let the bill come to a final vote. Sponsor Peter Kinder thinks he has the necesary support, if he can get to a closing vote on the bill. Kinder says Illinois is waiting for Missouri to fail on the bill so it can make an offer for the Cardinals to move across the River. Steelman says it’s just a bluff. Kinder and his supporters say it would be a mistake to find out if it is.
