A Dallas County jury’s $2-million damage award might beappealed by the people who won it because, they say, it is not enough. The award will be used for future medical care of six-year-old Samantha Thomas, whose brain injury suffered during a child abuse incident at the age of three months has left her in a near-vegetative state. Her lawyer and her biological father had asked for $14-million in the suit against a Bolivar day-care center and three doctors. The jury has ordered two of the doctors to pay the damages. Her father and her lawyer say the failure of the jury to award any money for past expenses, or for her future suffering, might be something they’ll appeal.
