Child Killed As Tornado Slams Into Southeast Missouri

April 29, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Clean-up efforts are underway in Marble Hill after a devastating tornado struck early Sunday morning, killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring about a dozen other people. According to the National Weather Service, winds of up to 200 miles-per-hour slammed into the region, destroying buildings, tossing cars, and uprooting trees. The same storm then moved into the Cape Girardeau area before crossing into Illinois and then into Kentucky. The dead 12-year-old boy is identified as Billy Hoover, who was staying overnight at a friend’s house when the tornado struck. The American Red Cross is providing temporary shelter in motels to those whose homes were destroyed.
