Byrd Goes Distance, Royals Snap Skid

April 23, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Paul Byrd has been one of the few bright spots for the Royals this season. Last night he looked even brighter. Byrd improved got a complete game 6-0 shutout of the Tigers, ending the teams four game losing streak. In nine innings, Byrd gave up six hits, striking out four, and walked none. He improved to 4-0 on the season. He’s the first Royals pitcher to do accomplish that feat since Bret Saberhagen opened up at 6-0 in 1987. He got help from the lineup. The Royals scored four runs in the first inning. Carlos Febles and Carlos Beltran both homered in the game. It was Febles’ first, Beltrans third. Jeff Suppan and Jeff Weaver duel tonight at 7:05 at the K.
