Election reform returns to the Missouri House with everyone seemily predicting a bill will get out of the Legislature this year and head to the Governor. It appears a compromise has been worked out to require voters to show ID before receiving a ballot at the polls. The other major issue, giving the Secretary of State subpoena power, might be more sticky. Republicans have been pushing the issue, with Democrats reluctant to give the Secretary of State such power. The bill is aimed at correcting the problems that arose in the 2000 election, not just in the Florida presidential controversy, but also in St. Louis.
