DNR Moving Forward With Doe Run Buyout

April 15, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

The Natural Resources Department hopes to have some signatures on paper from the Doe Run Lead Company this week, outlining the specifics of the company’s buyout of homeowners living near its lead smelter in Herculaneum. Doe Run plans to buy 20 houses, pay closing costs on a new house, and $3,000 in moving expenses. The 20 homes have young children in them. Children 6 years old and younger are considered most susceptible to lead poisoning. The company will offer to buy about 140 more houses further away from the smelter.
