Congresswoman Pushes Administration To Increase Trade With Cuba

March 27, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

Southeast Missouri Congresswoman JoAnn Emerson is hoping to convince the Bush Administration to lower the barriers standing between U.S.-Cuba trade. Emerson, who has visited Cuba twice in the past year, says Cuban officials have become quite eager to buy American agricultural goods. Emerson says it’s a simple matter of economics – the Cubans save money by purchasing farm products from the U.S. It costs much more to bringin food from China, Vietnam, or other communist countries. Emerson says American farmers stand to benefit a great deal as a result of increased trade with Cuba.
