Republicans Serve Up Challenger To McCaskill

March 25, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

A lawyer for Washington University in St. Louis has filed to run for the State Auditor’s post that is held by Claire McCaskill. Jay Kanzler helps oversee compliance for almost $1-billion annually in federal and state tax dollars directed to the school. He realizes his task is a tough one, but he believes he’s up to the challenge. Kanzler believes he can make improvements on the job McCaskill is doing. For instance, he feels McCaskill should have been aware of Missouri’s fiscal problems and should have done more to warn citizens of the upcoming situation. Kanzler faces a challenge from one other Republican in the race for the party’s nomination, but he expects to get the GOP endorsement in the next few days.
