Plan To Fully Fund Education Moves Forward

March 18, 2002 By admin Leave a Comment

An effort to increase gambling revenue and eliminate business tax incentives to raise enough money to fully fund public schools now goes to the Senate. It goes long with creation of the lottery game Keno seeks to raise the $177-Million necessary to fully fund the school formula. The bill would increase casino admission fees by a dollar and increase the casino tax by two percent. Casinos wanted loss limits lifted, but didn’t get that. Business isn’t happy about provisions taxing revenue earned out-of-state, expected to create $25-Million, eliminating the timelyfiling discount for employer withholding taxes, and ending refunds for the over-collection of sales taxes.
