The St. Louis Cardinals’ stadium deal moves a step closer to becoming a reality. By a vote of 22-6, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen has given first-round approval to the proposed deal. In so doing, the Board rejecteda bid to let voters decide the issue. The proposal will come up for final approval next Friday. The Cardinals and other stadium project supporters say the ballpark and adjacent Ballpark Village will provide a major economicboost for the entire state. At the state level, Governor Bob Holden and several key lawmakers support the project, which would see state money help finance the proposal. But the deal must be approved by both the House and Senate.
