Jim Talent is officially in the race for the U.S. Senate seat held by Senator Jean Carnahan. The former St. Louis area Congressman has formally filed the necessary papers with the Secretary of State’s Office in Jefferson City. Talent says there are differences between himself and Senator Carnahan – with one of those issues being in the area of election reform. Talent says he would love to have the opportunity to push in the Senate for greater election reform – reform that would require those registering to vote for the first time to present identification. An official in Senator Carnahan’s office says the Senator will travel to Jefferson City on Monday to formally file the necessary papers.
